Is John Smoltz the greatest athlete ever?

The 8 time All-Star, Cy young, Silver Slugger, NLCS MVP, and World Series winner John Smoltz has qualified for the Senior Open.

Yes, this John Smoltz.

51 year old Smoltz finished three under with a 69 (nice) at the end of the day, and was in a three way tie to earn one of three positions available for the Senior Open. Smoltz -5 through 12 looked to have the bag secured, but then began to skid Bogeying 13 and 16. Believe it or not he double bogeyed the 3rd playoff hole, but alas he outlasted 105 golfers, and made the cut.

If you’ve watched any of Fox Sports documentaries on the 90’s Braves, you know that Smoltz has always been a golfer, as the Three headed pitching monster in Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, and John Smoltz played golf on most of their off days.

Coverage of the Senior Open will air on Fox, June 28- July 1, at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.
