Ever since Super Bowl 50 it has been kind of hard to be a panthers fan. Coming off of a heartbreaking Super Bowl, the Panthers went 6-10 in 2016, and lost Josh Norman.
The 2016 draft class brought in Vernon Butler, James Bradberry, and Daryl Worley. Although Worley has since been traded to the Eagles for veteran WR Torrey Smith, Both Worley and Bradberry had to fill some big roles, but it’s hard to step in right away, especially against an NFC South division that has receivers like Julio Jones, Mike Evans, and Michael Thomas.
The 2017 draft class brought in Christian McCaffrey and Curtis Samuel. Samuel has been injury plagued so far in his career, but McCaffrey has lived up to the hype. He was used mostly as a decoy last year, but with him being the #1 guy, this should allow him to break through for the Panthers.
The 2018 draft class excites me the most out of the last three years. 1st rounders DJ Moore will play right away, and help Cam out. Donte Jackson will be prepared to help the secondary out immediately, looking very polished coming out of DBU, in LSU. Ian Thomas will get to learn under Greg Olsen, and then take over in a few years.
Some off season moves made by the panthers will give Cam Newton some weapons finally, in WR’s Torrey Smith, and Jarius Wright. I don’t think Wright will have much impact, but nonetheless give the WR position more depth. With the addition of Norv Turner, the Panthers will receive one of the better coaches, as far as football knowledge goes. The panthers also signed FA Dontari Poe from the NFC South Foe, Atlanta Falcons.
The Panthers will return one of the top front 7’s in the NFL, lead by Pro-Bowler Luke Kuechly. Julius Peppers, Poe, Mario Addison, and Kawan Short make up the D-Line, and Shaq Thompson, and the old man Thomas Davis round out the front 7.
