The Cincinnati Reds are one of the hottest teams in baseball right now, winning 14 of their last 19. As a Reds fan, it was weird to type that last sentence. Cincinnati has come on strong here in the last month and have started to make a little push in the NL Central. What’s extremely weird is that the Reds have the NL batting average leader, the NL RBI leader, the NL OBP leader, best hitting infield in baseball, most grand slams in baseball, NL best record the last 20 games, and they have a great bullpen who has been doing some work recently. They have all of those credentials and are still 12.5 games back. It seems now however, that they are starting to find their stride and are starting to look like a real baseball team. Reds pitcher Micheal Lorenzen had 3 homeruns last week including a grand slam. Yes, a pitcher had 3 homeruns in ONE WEEK. It seems as if he may be getting more AB’s to try and see if he can dual as a pitcher and an outfielder. He played OF at Cal State Fullerton in college and works on his swing everyday. The Reds have a lot of young guys like pitcher Tyler Mahle who has been lights out his last couple starts and OF Jesse Winker who is 9th in NL OBP standings. As I mentioned earlier, the Reds not only have the NL OBP leader, but 3 players inside the top 10 (Votto, Suarez, Winker). They also have arguably the best second baseman in the NL. Wait, theres really no arguing. Scooter Gennett is the best second baseman in the NL and he deserves to start in the all star game. If you haven’t already voted, do it NOW. Those are just the many reasons why I think more people need to be watching the Reds. They are a completely different team from the beginning of the year.
