“Bleacher Report-San Antonio Spurs legend David Robinson is flummoxed by the entire Kawhi Leonard situation that ultimately led to the two-time Defensive Player of the Year being traded to the Toronto Raptors.
Robinson discussed Leonard’s falling out with the Spurs during a Monday interview with Rachel Nichols on ESPN’s The Jump and called it “one of the oddest situations I think I’ve seen since I’ve been in pro basketball”
Nichols asked the Hall of Famer if he reached out to Leonard, and Robinson joked by saying “has anybody spoke to Kawhi about this?” before revealing he attempted to several times but never received an answer.”
I’ve always been a Kawhi Leonard fan. But no question about it, he handled this Spurs situation awfully. The way he went public with demanding a trade while sheltering himself from the Spurs organization has definitely tarnished his reputation of just being a guy that shows up and balls, and has caused some to look at him like he’s just another Diva in the sports world.
All that aside, whenever an NBA legend like David Robinson comes to talk to you, YOU TALK TO HIM. Maybe Pop sent him to be a middle man. To try to get Kawhi to stay with San Antonio. Or maybe David Robinson was just reaching out to be a mentor in life. Maybe he just wanted to help Kawhi through this difficult situation and give him some advice.
Well Kawhi. You got what you wanted. You’re out of San Antonio. Now start mending some of the bridges you’ve destroyed before they’re completely burnt.
